What thou lovest well remains,
                                   the rest is dross
What thou lov’st well shall not be reft from thee
What thou lov’st well is thy true heritage
Whose world, or mine or theirs
                             or is it of none?

First came the seen, then thus the palpable
Elysium, though it were in the halls of hell

"That's how I found myself for the first time in this city. As it turned out, there was nothing particularly auspicious or ominous about this arrival of mine. If that night portended anything at all, it was that I'd never possess this city; but then I never had any such aspiration."
Joseph Brodsky, Watermark - An Essay on Venice

“I've embraced the fact that most people watch movies on their electronic devices. I do myself.
So I think about the picture a little bit differently. It kind of suits me, anyway, because even in the '80s, when
I started making films, I knew that I had the most fun doing scenes of people talking to each other
or other small activities.
And I noticed that television back then—good television—did that really well.
My impulse was not to make the widescreen extravaganza-type thing.
So now I'm back in a world where people are really watching movies on small formats and close-up works well.”
